Triumph Power and Gas Systems (TPG) Limited a leading indigenous integrated energy service company, has again demonstrated a commendable gesture in fulfilling its corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by being one of the sponsors of “The National Chess Championship 2021″.

It was hosted by Orchid-Lekki Chess Club (OLCC) on behalf of Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF) from November 8 to November 14, 2021 at Orchid Hotel, Lekki, Lagos. While the championship went on at Orchid Hotel, the games were streamed on international chess platforms that enabled people from 4 different continents follow the progressive of the competition. 342 players came from across Nigeria to compete in the various categories of the event.

The primary objective of the championship event, apart from promoting chess with all its globally acknowledged intellectual, sporting and education benefits, was to determine the male and female national chess champions of Nigeria.

The arrangement which had Orchid-Lekki Chess Club (OLCC) organise the NCC on behalf of the Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF) marked the first time in Nigeria’s sporting history that a private chess club would partner with the Nigeria Chess Federation to organise a major sporting event.

It turned out to be a special chess festival with many players, participants, journalists and stakeholders describing it as ‘the biggest and best chess event ever organized in Nigeria’.
